William Emerson, 97, passed on Monday, April 13, 2026.
With deep love and gratitude, we announce the passing of William Robert Emerson, who entered eternal rest on April 13, 2026, at the age of 97. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vivian, and his sons, William and Robert. He is survived by his sons, Donald, Larry, and Van, and a host of grand and great-grandchildren.
Above all, William loved God; his faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding his every step and nurturing the compassionate, gentle spirit that defined him. He was a wonderful human being—kind, steady, and deeply devoted to those he loved. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he cherished his family and remained a constant source of strength and wisdom for generations.
William lived a life marked by service and integrity. He served his country honorably as a member of the US Army in both World War II and the Korean War. An accomplished engineer, he applied his knowledge and skill in ways that reflected both discipline and purpose. He also held a lifelong dream of becoming a pilot—an aspiration that spoke to his courage and sense of possibility.
William was committed to uplifting others and championing causes close to his heart. He was a lifetime member of the NAACP and a proud supporter of the Tuskegee Airmen. Deeply passionate about the welfare of children, he was a steadfast supporter of the Children's Aid Society and a dedicated advocate for the foster care system, always striving to provide a brighter future for those in need. Over theyears, he received numerous acknowledgments and honors in recognition of his service and commitment to his community.
He will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his impeccable character, his profound love for family, and the quiet dignity with which he lived his life.

In accordance with his wishes, William will be laid to rest with a military service and burial, Thursday, May 14, 2026 at 11:00 am , Salisbury National Cemetery, 502 Statesville Boulevard, Salisbury, NC 28144.
