Thomas Church
September 21, 1948-July 1, 2025
With both sadness and love, we announce the peaceful passing of Thomas Church age 76, on July 1, 2025.
The last several months of his life, Tom was surrounded by family and friends who he loved and who loved him back, so very much.
Born in Marion, Virginia on September 21, 1948, Tom served his country with honor as a proud veteran of the United States Army. His time in service shaped much of his life and remained a source of quiet pride.
He continued to serve his country for over 20 years as a first responder and community relations director for FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security.
Thomas was a father to four children, a grandfather to eight sweet grandchildren, a great-grandfather to an adorable great-grandson, and a cousin and lifelong friend to many. Time spent with his circle of family and friends brought many moments of laughter, joy and so much meaning throughout his life. While relationships with family can be complex, his love for his children and grandchildren always endured.
Tom spent the last 6 months of his life living in South Carolina with his daughter, Jodi, son-in-law, Michael, and granddaughters, Grace, Rachel, and Josie. Their time together created memories for a lifetime.
He found great enjoyment in his hobbies, especially fishing, boating, traveling, watching NASCAR, sitting by the ocean, playing guitar, writing music and spending time with his grandkids. These passions gave him purpose and allowed him to connect with others and express himself in meaningful ways.
Tom will be remembered for his strength, humor, independence, fun-loving spirit, and the values he held close — service, perseverance, and love expressed in the ways he knew best.
