Tahjia Chapman Obituary

WINSTON SALEM, NORTH CAROLINA

December 9, 1986 - October 9, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Tahjia Bryana Chapman. Born on December 9, 1986 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, she became our guardian angel on October 9, 2024.

Tahjia was an adventurous spirit whose heart was boundless and her kindness immeasurable. She lit up every room she entered and left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Always humble and ready to serve, she embodied love through her actions, words, and unwavering support for her family and friends. Growing up in Anson County, North Carolina, Tahjia shone brightly in school, especially on the basketball court. Her talent earned her a spot on the Charlotte Fire AAU Basketball Team. After graduating she was accepted to NC State with an academic scholarship. Through Job Corps she became certified in tax preparation. As her journey continued, she touched many lives in various roles- from being a freelance writer, bus driver, substitute teacher, tutor, security officer, and a dedicated worker in group homes for troubled youth. Education was paramount to Tahjia. At South Piedmont Community College, she earned her AAS in Business Management, Business Administration Diploma and multiple certificates in the same field while always striving to learn and grow. Her career as a correctional officer at Lanesboro Correctional Institution and Central Prison in Raleigh was a testament to her strength, compassion, and dedication. Recently she found a new calling as a licensed insurance agent that was always looking for a way to help and support those she serviced. Tahjia’s passions were as varied as they were profound. She spent countless hours at the library, reading, fishing, visiting the shooting range, cooking and baking. Her insatiable curiosity made her a lifelong learner always seeking new experiences, knowledge, and challenges.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and inspiration. Her memory will be cherished by her mother, Tonya K. (Chapman) McLendon; her brothers Demar Q. Chapman (Texas), and Donald K. McLendon (Charlotte, NC); her grandmother, Rosa Chapman (Kinston, NC); and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and co-workers.  Tahjia now joins her grandmother Elizabeth Elaine McLendon-Maye and her father, Donald McLendon, in eternal peace. Though she is no longer with us, her light will continue to guide and inspire us all.

A memorial will be planned to honor Tahjia. The details of the service will be announced.
