Sylvia Winniefred Miles

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA

December 15, 1936 - October 4, 2021

Sylvia Winniefred Miles departed this world on October 4, 2021 at age 84. Winnie, as she was affectionately called, was born on December 15, 1936 in Kingston Jamaica. Sylvia lived in London, England for a number of years until she moved to the United States and settled in Charlotte, NC. Sylvia was married to Jimmy Owens from Charlotte, NC.

 Sylvia was one of 10 children born to Stafford Winston Miles and Eugenie Miles. Her siblings’ are1. Carlton Miles,2.Lambert Miles 3.Lloyd Miles, 4.Shirley Kelley,5.Ruddy Miles, 6. Erica Lampkin, 7. Theresa Blair, 8. Norman Madden, 9. Stafford Miles Jr.

Sylvia matriculated through the Holy Catholic School System of Kingston Jamaica. After moving to the United States, she earned a cosmetology degree and opened her own business. She flourished in her career and had many satisfied clients, some of who became her close friends.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of the Sugar Creek Congregation of Jehovah’s Witness. She enjoyed studying the bible and going to worship.

Sylvia’s favorite hobbies were, shopping, traveling, going to the beach with family, and friends and always wanted to be the funny woman in the room.

She leaves to cherish her memories, children: Ann Marie Clinton, Joanna Green, Marcelle Miles, and Michelle Gilbert. Grandchildren: Chad Clinton; (Shabnam) Najah Clinton Sundberg,  Kenneth Green Jr, Mali Green, Kristian Green, Shawna Aaron, Kaylan Kennon-Doyle, Tyce and Tevin Hunter, and a host of great grandchildren. Sylvia was predeceased by brothers Carlton, Lloyd and Ruddy, sisters: Norma Madden and Theresa Blair, grandchildren, Katrell and Nia.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
