Stephen F. Maher, Jr., 49, a beloved husband and father passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2026 surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy battle with Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD).
Born on March 19, 1977 in Taunton, Massachusetts. Stephen's (Stevie's) life was a testament to love, laughter and resiliency.
Stevie was a man of many talents and passions. He spent many years woodworking and created beautiful pieces of work. Stevie worked several years for a fencing company, where his talents blossomed. Fourteen years ago he moved his family to South Carolina where he most recently worked for the US Postal Service.
Stevie's enthusiasm for gardening was one of his passions. He was an outdoor kind of guy. He enjoyed outback barbeques, beer and all of the New England Sports teams. He enjoyed his time at the beach with his family as well. Stevie's smile was infectious. His laid back attitude was inspiring. Just like his mother, he was 100%, as he fought his courageous battle with PKD.
Stevie was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen Maher of Brockton, Massachusetts.
He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Bethannie, son, Stephen F. Maher, III (age 20). He will be deeply missed by his three siblings, Heather Martin (Dan) of Brockton Massachusetts, Shannon Whitehead (Jeff) of Assonet, Massachusetts and Michael Maher (Tiffany) of Spartanburg, South Carolina; his father, Stephen F. Maher. Stevie is also survived by his grandmother, Phyllis Jezard of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, Father and Mother in Law, Stewart and Patricia McAfee of Brockton, Massachusetts; several nieces and nephews who adored him; along with several aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
A Visitation Service for family and friends will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at First Lutheran Church, Brockton, Massachusetts. Time will be determined at a later date.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Polycystic Kidney Foundation, an organization the family holds close to their hearts.
The Maher Family have entrusted arrangements to Roseboro's Mortuary & Crematory.
