Charlotte, North Carolina
July 17, 1927 - June 09, 2026
Sophia G. Brown, 98, peacefully passed away from natural causes on June 9, 2026, in Charlotte, NC. She was born July 17, 1927, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to the late Theodore and Sylvia Gounos.
She graduated from Ottawa Hills High School and left for Nashville, Tennessee to attend Ward-Belmont Junior College in 1946, never to return to the north again. She married and moved to Charlotte, NC where she raised her surviving four children: Karen (Eden) Merchant of Aiken, SC, Brian Allen and Eric Brown of Cornelius, NC and Douglas Allen of Little River, SC. She survived one sister, Elizabeth Sarafis, of Grand Rapids, Michigan. During her professional career, she was a successful realtor, becoming Realtor of the Year in Charlotte, NC, as well as her sales roles as a realtor in Myrtle Beach and Columbia, SC. She loved that profession and had a real talent for helping people find their dream homes. Throughout much of her life, she was very athletic, lettering in women's field hockey, also enjoying figure skating and tennis. Her other interests and talents were playing the violin and piano, tap dancing, ballet, and the tango, in addition to singing. Sophia was a wonderful seamstress making and altering clothes for her children and grandchildren. She had always wanted to be a clothing designer. She will be greatly missed by her 4 children, 9 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
The Brown Family has entrusted arrangements to Roseboro's Mortuary & Crematory.
