Shawn Crigger Obituary

In Loving Memory of Shawn Crigger

July 24, 1978 – February 15, 2026

Shawn Crigger, a gifted self-taught programmer, devoted son, and steadfast animal lover, passed away from congestive heart failure on Sunday night, February 15, 2026, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was 47 years old.

Born on July 24, 1978, in Baltimore, Maryland, Shawn spent his formative years in Severna Park, Maryland.  In the 90’s he relocated to North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where he spent much of his adult life before recently moving to Charlotte North Carolina to embark on a new professional chapter.

Shawn’s professional journey was a testament to his intellect and tenacity. Though he began his career in the auto repair and HVAC industries, he eventually returned to a childhood passion: computers. As a self-taught developer, Shawn possessed a rare gift for deciphering the complex logic of programming languages. He successfully transitioned into the tech industry full-time, where he built and maintained the digital infrastructure for numerous large businesses and prominent local companies in the Myrtle Beach area. He was a man who truly loved a challenge and found deep satisfaction in solving the intricate puzzles of code.

Outside of his professional life, Shawn was known for his gentle heart and his "hippie" spirit. In his younger years, he was often seen sporting dreadlocks, reflecting his laid-back nature and his deep love for the rock music of the Grateful Dead, Widespread Panic, and Phish. He also love Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash. He remained a "Deadhead" at heart throughout his life, carrying that sense of peace and community with him wherever he went.

Shawn is survived first and foremost by his constant companion of 15 years, his dog, Mittens. Their bond was one of absolute devotion; Mittens was a fixture by his side from the day he adopted her.

Shawn also leaves behind his loving parents, Faye Crigger and Joe Crigger of Surfside Beach; his sons, Jeremy Crigger of Surfside Beach and Dakota Beasley  of North Myrtle Beach; his sister, Sherrie Hickey of Myrtle Beach; and his brother, Joe Crigger of North Myrtle Beach. He is also mourned by a large, extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins who will miss his kindness and brilliant mind dearly.

He was predeceased by his two of his aunts, Sharon Meyd of Conway, SC and Joan Hanson of TN; and two of his cousins, Richard Haney of Severn, MD, and Amber Dawson Cassaco of Millersville, MD.

Shawn will be remembered as a man of great loyalty and intellect—a hard worker who found his greatest joy conversing with family, friends, and his faithful dog. Shawn never met a stranger and loved to hold long, deep conversations with everyone he knew.
