Robert Amonte Claitt

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA

Robert "Amontae" Claitt (June 17, 1985 - December 7, 2025) was the consummate uplifter of people. He made adults feel heard. Kids felt seen. And everyone felt loved. Amontae started his day by studying the Bible and in prayer. This was his foundation of wisdom and love that he was quick to share when he saw someone needing encouragement. You knew you’d experienced God’s love after time with Amontae. That fun, kind, and gentle spirit is what attracted his fiancé Emily Beatty to him. Dear friends for 30 years, Emily and Amontae looked forward to getting married, having a baby, and spending a long and happy life together.

Amontae loved his entire family whole heartedly and held tremendous pride in his children. There was nothing he enjoyed more than bragging on them and spending time together. Whether it was playing Monopoly or Uno, sitting around the fire pit, having philosophical discussions, or just listening to them talk about the things that made their heart happy, there was no place he would rather be.

Amontae is survived his fiancé, Emily Beatty; children, Amontae “Tae”, Andre, Alyson,  Tyrecus Tolbert and Baby Claitt (expected July 2026); parents, Alma & Kelvin Nelson; parents-in-law, Aleece & John Beatty and Claudia Pearson & John McKenzie; siblings, Darius Claitt, Portia Joel, Joaquin Nelson, Tajahl Nelson, and Adjani Nelson; siblings-in-law, John David Beatty, Jefferson Beatty, Holly Pearson Niki McDonie, and Chris McDonie; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and soon-to-be in-laws. He is preceded in death by his father Robert Claitt and grandmothers Rosa McCall and Gloria Stanton.

A celebration of Amontae’s life will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at Ridge Church (10835 Independence Pointe Parkway, Matthews, NC 28105). Visitation begins at 3:00 PM with the service starting at 3:30 PM.
