Phyllis Alexander, was born on February 20, 1951 in Elizabethtown, NC, she departed this life on September 11, 2024. Phyllis, graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1969 and furthered her education at Johnson C. Smith University. Throughout her professional career, she worked with the F.B.I, Cadwalader, Wickham and Taft, and ShowPros, retiring in 2019.
Phyllis was a caring, kind, generous, helpful, and funny individual, always ready to lend a hand or share a laugh. Upon her move to Charlotte in 1969, she was deeply involved in her community and her church, attending serval congregations including Greater Mount Sinai Baptist, Mount Carmel Baptist, Greenville Memorial AME Zion, and Myers Tabernacle AME Zion, where she was a member for the last 39 years. Phyllis was a soloist in the church choir, a class leader emeritus, involved in the Boys and Girls Scouts, headed the culinary committee, and served on the stewardess board. She had a unique tradition of sending birthday cards or making phone calls to connect with loved ones and fellow church members.
Phyllis is survived by her sons, Mitchell and Michael of Charlotte; her brother, Hilton Smith (Marsha) of Aurora, OH; her aunt, Gloria Richardson of Portsmouth, VA; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Michell-Patrice; her father, Jack Smith; her mother, Willie Maude Smith; and her stepmother, Deloris Smith.
Phyllis Alexander will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her dedication to her church, and her unwavering support of her family and friends. Her legacy of kindness and generosity will continue to inspire those who knew her.
A Funeral Service to Celebrate the Life of Phyllis will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at Myers Tabernacle AME Zion Church, 509 Cherry St, Charlotte, NC 28204. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM and Funeral Service will start at 1:00 PM.
Interment will be held at Beatties Ford Memorial Gardens.
