Luretta Morgan Obituary

Denver, North Carolina

June 06, 1946 - May 01, 2023

Luretta Brawley Morgan of North Wilkesboro died May 1st, 2023 in Huntersville, NC. She was born in High Point, NC on June 6th, 1946. She was the daughter to the late John Eugene Brawley and Ghita Boyles. She is also preceded in death by her son-in-law Charles (Chuck) Elmo Compton III.

She was a longtime hairdresser, but she also was an office manager at Rent-A-Car for Lyles Chevrolet then moved over to become the office manager for TRANSCO, Rolls Royce distributor in High Point. She retired as a dispatcher for a local furniture company in High Point.

Luretta had a special love for Elvis Presley, including “A Tribute to Elvis” performer Eddie Miles. She spent a lot of time attending his performances with her friends. She loved the beach especially Myrtle Beach, SC. She was also a huge fan of NASCAR and had a special place in her heart for Richard Petty. Working for Lyles Chevrolet she was able to meet him many times and she introduced her children to him several times.

She was a very good cook and she always made sure everyone had something good to eat. She transferred her cooking talents to her two children. No one could make fried chicken like she could. She was a loving mother who went out of her way to make sure everyone was always taken care of.  Luretta had an incredible work ethic as well as always making sure she took her children to band, swim, dance, and baseball practices. Luretta’s love for music channeled into her children. She introduced concerts to her kids and made sure that they listened to all different types of music, that’s very evident to this day.

She loved going to church and lived her life for the Lord.

She is survived by her daughter Michelle Compton and her partner Jeremy Sternberg, son Jeffrey Hepler and wife Eleanor.

She loved her many grandchildren, Jessica Hepler, Tristan Hepler, Allie Hepler, Benjamin Hepler, Shannon (Bub) Tuttle, Chloe Hanson and husband Curtis Hanson, and Maddie Tuttle. As well as her great grandchildren, Jason, Lucy, and Dawson.

Luretta was a true animal lover, especially the lifetime of family fur babies; Toby, KC, CK, Athena, and Missy along with the many great grand fur babies.

We will never forget her dry sense of humor or her stubbornness.

She will be loved and truly missed.  We love you mom.

The family held a private gathering at their home per Luretta’s wishes.

In lieu of flowers a donation can be sent to The American Cancer Society in Luretta’s name.
