January 30, 1961 - January 28, 2025
Joel Morris Cross passed away on January 28th after a short illness. Born (January 30th, 1961) and raised in Bristol, Virginia, Joel was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He accepted Christ as his savior in July of 1967 at a Billy Graham meeting in Knoxville, Tennessee and was baptized on October 29th, 1967, at the Euclid Avenue Baptist Church in Bristol, Virginia.
Joel attended and graduated from the Bristol Virginia High School and went on to graduate from Emory and Henry College. He was a talented member of the tennis team at each school. Joel moved to Atlanta to begin his career as a gifted and charismatic salesman. Joel married Linda Golson on March 27th, 1993, in Knoxville, Tennessee.
In his personal life, Joel most loved spending time with his family. He was active in his three children’s extracurricular activities, from coaching basketball and baseball teams to building “Pinewood Derby” racecars. He enjoyed traveling, most recently with his family to Italy, Greece and Turkey in 2023 and France in 2024. Joel was an avid music fan, especially fond of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, John Prine and John Hiatt. Joel had the unique ability to make every person he encountered feel included and important and always had the perfect joke to tell. He was a skillful storyteller with a quick wit and sharp sense of humor.
Joel is survived by his wife of 32 years, Linda Golson Cross; children Benjamin, Amanda and Camille Cross; sister- and brother-in-law Kay and Jimmy Guinn; sister Martha (Bobby) Knox; brother Tom Cross; nephews Jim (Chelsea) Guinn, David (Maria) Guinn and Connor Knox; grandnieces Blair and Caroline Guinn; grandnephews George and Charlie Guinn, and numerous other family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Morris Cross, and father, Henry Thomas Cross. Joel will forever be dearly missed by his loved ones.
The Family will have a Memorial service on Friday, February 7, 2025 at Grace Resurrection Methodist Church,1200 Indian Hills Parkway Marietta, GA 30068. (678-653-9790)
