James Doneghy Obituary

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA

February 7, 1945 - May 31, 2022

James Edward Doneghy, 77, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 20222.

James Edward Doneghy passed away peacefully  on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at his home. James was born on February 7, 1945 in Harrodsburg, KY, the first of two children born to Howard and Zelma Cunningham Doneghy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his only sibling, Zelma Louise Doneghy and most recently, step-grandson Michael-Luther Black.

At an early age, James gave his life to Christ. He was a gentle and kind soul who loved people, laughter, spending time with friends and family, traveling, and just genuinely enjoyed life. He seldom met a stranger and could hold a conversation with anyone. James was very charming and all who knew him loved and admired his sincere and good-hearted spirit.

James was a proud graduate of Mercer County High School, class of 1964. He attended Kentucky State University and then he was drafted. He enlisted in the US Air Force in July 1967 and proudly served his country until he was honorably discharged in May 1972. During his years in the service he was deployed to Vietnam for one year during the Vietnam War. After leaving the service he was employed by IBM until his retirement.

On December 14, 2017, James married the love of his life, Carrie Doneghy. James and Carrie had a supportive and caring relationship and enjoyed their precious time with one another. They traveled  as much as possible prior to and during their marriage.

James leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and dedicated wife, Carrie;  son Kevin Doneghy (Karri) along with his granddaughter Alexis Elizabeth Doneghy, Lexington, KY. Sharing in these memories is his bonus family; children, Vincent Black (Gilesa), Sonya Black-Harris, Keith Kennedy-McKenzie (Angela), Aaron Kennedy, Sabrina Kennedy, Antione Kennedy and Saconya Gaston, twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and a host of cousins and friends.
